About Kensington Metropark

Kensington Metropark spans over 4,500 acres of stunning landscapes, featuring flat to rolling terrain, mixed hardwood forests, and open fields. With more than 30 miles of out-and-back trails and a single-track connector to the Proud Lake State Recreation Area, the park offers diverse routes and terrain to suit every riding preference.
The Huron River winds through the park’s northwest corner, providing a refreshing oasis for watering your horse or enjoying a swim after a warm ride. Wildlife abounds, with frequent sightings of deer, wild turkeys, and the iconic Sandhill Cranes, whose distinctive calls echo through the park. Trails may lead you along the edges of Kent Lake or to panoramic viewpoints on the nine-mile western loop.

The equestrian staging area, located off Martindale Road between Dawson and GM Roads, is a popular hub for riders, particularly during bug or hunting seasons. As Kensington Metropark prohibits hunting and is relatively bug-free, it offers a serene alternative when other trails may be less accessible. The staging area includes a porta-john and a nearby hand pump for water, though many riders prefer to water their horses at the river.

Whether you’re a seasoned trail rider or a newcomer, Kensington Metropark’s natural beauty and well-maintained trails provide an exceptional equestrian experience.
